Platja des Coto
Platja des Coto, or simply Es Coto, is a small beach in the northern part of the holiday resort of Colonia de Sant Jordi in southern Mallorca.
If you want to stay with a view of this beach and the neighbouring Platja Estanys, the 4-star Universal Hotel Marqués is located right between the two beaches. The hotel gets great reviews from guests.
The beach in general
Platja des Coto is beautifully situated in a small bay with flat rocks on one side and a low pier on the other. Together with the small island of Llarga in front of the beach, it provides good protection from waves.
With a length of 70 metres, Platja des Coto is not large, nor does it have any facilities. Still, it’s quite popular, but there’s also something charming about the beach and its surroundings.
Child-friendliness
The beach is not particularly shallow, but the water is almost always calm. So Platja des Coto is definitely in the category of child-friendly beaches.
Water sports activities
There are no water sports activities at Es Coto. Those who fancy motorboats, kayaks and pedalos should instead visit Colonia Sant Jordi’s town beach, Es Port. A larger, but also very beautiful beach.
Restaurants at the beach
There are no beach bars or restaurants at Platja des Coto, but there are at the neighbouring beach Platja Estanys. The distance is only 300 metres.
The holiday resort of Colonia Sant Jordi
As a holiday resort, Colonia Sant Jordi is of a good size. There are plenty of restaurants, cafés and shops, but without the resort becoming too touristic. The harbour area is beautiful and there is also a lovely beach.
Another lively area is the street Avenida Primavera, where there are many restaurants and small shops. This street is located midway between Colonia Sant Jordi’s harbour area and Platja des Coto.
An ideal excursion is a boat trip to the protected island of Cabrera. Here you’ll find unspoilt nature with a rich bird and animal life, and the old fortress Castell de Cabrera from the 15th century is also interesting.

Platja des Coto, or Es Coto, is right in the centre of the map. The much larger beach to the right is Platja s’Estany. In the bottom right corner of the map are the reddish pools of sea water from which salt is extracted.
